Westerland - Sylt, Germany

Westerland is a seaside resort located on the western shore of the German North Sea island of Sylt.  Around 180km northwest of Hamburg the island is one of the most northern towns in Germany.  Whilst the origins of the town lie in hunting and fishing, the economy nowadays is heavily orientated towards tourism with recent years having around 2.5 million people staying overnight.  The major attraction to Westerland is the 6km promenade.
