Como, located to the South of the lake, is a short train ride from Milan; its a picturesque town popular with tourists wanting to explore the region. There are a range of private offering tours as well as ferry services shuttling people around the numerous villages and towns situated around the lakes edge. The trip I took was a public ferry from Como to Bellagio; a great way to spend a few hours taking in the majestic scenery as well as the architecture of the lakeside properties. The lake itself is glacial in origin; the water reaches a depth of over 400m and at one point is over 220m below sea level.
