Paris - La Defence

On Location - La Defense, Paris, France

La Defense is a great area to visit if you are interested in modern architecture.  Each building has unique features and I found myself wondering, on many an occasion, as to how they had managed to build such structures.  Beyond the functional architecture there is art in how these buildings have been created; they have a presence and it is something to behold.  I chose late afternoon for my visit as it was the perfect time to capture the changing light through twilight, golden hour, sunset, and the blue hour.  An interesting fact is that the stock market activity in La Défense has very recently overtaken that of London and has become the most powerful business district in Europe.

Wikipedia Nov.22:

La Défense is the first business district of Europe. located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the city limits of Paris.  La Défense is Europe's largest purpose-built business district, covering 560 hectares (1,400 acres), for 180,000 daily workers with 72 glass and steel buildings (of which 19 are completed skyscrapers), and 3,500,000 square metres (38,000,000 sq ft) of office space. Around its Grande Arche and esplanade ("le Parvis"), La Défense contains many of the Paris urban area's tallest high-rises.  The district is located at the westernmost extremity of the 10-kilometre-long (6.2 mi) Axe historique ("historical axis") of Paris, which starts at the Louvre in Central Paris and continues along the Champs-Élysées, well beyond the Arc de Triomphe along the Avenue de la Grande Armée before culminating at La Défense.
